A New Generation of MR Diagnostics Incubator System

LMT Presents an Innovation in Paediatric Radiology

In November 2018, LMT Medical Systems GmbH will introduce the new MR Diagnostics Incubator System nomag® IC ADVANCED: it will be shown first at Medica, the world’s leading medical trade fair, in Düsseldorf from 12 to 15 November, and then at RSNA 2018, the main annual conference in the field of radiology held by Radiological Society of North America, in Chicago from 25 to 30 November. The successor model of the diagnostic device for paediatric radiology with which LMT Medical Systems GmbH first created the option of examining newborn and premature babies in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner at paediatric intensive care wards 15 years ago offers improved functionality for both the examined infants and for the medical staff.

Considerate and careful: MRI scanning of newborn and premature babies

“This new generation represents a logical evolution of our MR Diagnostics Incubator System,” says Torsten Lönneker-Lammers, Managing Director of LMT Medical Systems GmbH (LMT). “Until now, it was mainly adapted to premature babies, who require the special protection of an incubator and who can be directly slid into the MRI scanner thanks to our system.” Each MR Diagnostics Incubator System by LMT allows non-invasive examination e.g. in case of suspected cardiac, pulmonary or cerebral disorders. “In neonatology, the requirements for diagnostic options regarding MRI scanning of newborn babies are generally becoming stricter. For this reason, the new MR Diagnostics Incubator System nomag® IC ADVANCED features a wider reclining surface, for instance, also allowing larger infants to be examined directly in the MRI scanner,” Torsten Lönneker-Lammers continues.
This is not the only innovation, however. The developers of the LMT have applied their extensive experience and their comprehensive know-how in the fields of neonatology and paediatric radiology e.g. to better protect the little patients against noise in the MRI scanner. LMT has also considered requests by hospitals for the continued development. Patient access was facilitated and the workflow during the MRI examination was optimized. In addition, the total weight of the new nomag IC ADVANCED has been reduced significantly to allow better handling during positioning on the MRI scanner’s reclining surface, while its modular structure makes cleaning easier.

Adapted to infants: neonatology and paediatric radiology

Temperature and humidity control of the incubator in consideration of infant age and medical requirements is one of the standard features also in the MR Diagnostics Incubator System
nomag® IC ADVANCED. The need for sedation in the system is low, so that full anaesthesia in infants can be avoided. Adapted high-frequency coils for the head and body provide fast and safe diagnostic options during which the newborn or premature baby is not exposed to radiation.
